DAY 1

February 20th – ANIMALS IN WINTER

Winter can be can be a difficult time of year for animals. It’s cold, the sun is only out for a short time, and the ground may be covered in snow. This program will investigate the many behaviors and adaptations that animals use to deal with winter’s chill. Students will take part in science experiments, outdoor activities, and will create crafts that help them understand animals in winter.

DAY 2

February 21st – MISUNDERTOOD CREATURES

Whether it’s from tall tales that have been passed down through the generations or from the imagination of modern writers and movie makers looking to create exciting stories, there are a lot of animal myths out there. This program will work to separate animal fact from fiction as students take part in games and activities that help them understand the truth about some of the misunderstood animals at the zoo.

DAY 3

February 22nd – BACKYARD EXPLORERS

A visit to the zoo is a great chance to see rare and incredible animals from all over the world. But there are some unbelievable critters that can be found in our own backyards too. Students will explore the park and the zoo looking for animal tracks and signs of native wildlife. This class will also investigate the different kinds of biomes found around the world and where our backyard fits in.

DAY 4

February 23rd – STUFFED ANIMAL DAY

Many animal lovers probably started that journey with a favorite stuffed animal. We are inviting participants to bring a stuffed animal friend with them to this program. Students will explore the similarities and differences between domestic pets and the wild animals living in the zoo. They will also use their stuffed animals in activities that help them learn about the responsibilities and challenges that pet owners and zookeepers face when caring for animals.
