For 24 years, the Education Department at Capron Park Zoo has been offering unique and exciting summer program opportunities for children ages 5-15. With animal encounters, behind-the-scenes experiences, games and hands-on activities that make learning fun, Summer Zoocademy gives children a chance to discover what it takes to work in conservation and the zoo field. If your child loves the zoo, then we have programs to offer them for years to come.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR REGISTRATION

Session Transfers:
If you would like to transfer from one session to another, we will try and accommodate you. All transfers must be completed by JUNE 1, 2019

CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS:
If your child has a medical special need, we will try to make as many accommodations as possible to keep your child safe. If your child has an emotional or learning challenge, please contact the Curator of Education at: 774-203-1843 to discuss whether or not this is an appropriate program for your child.

Refunds:
You may cancel your child’s registration and receive a refund minus a $25 processing fee before JUNE 1, 2019. NO REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED AFTER JUNE 1!

Payment options:
You may pay for your child’s registration by cash, check or charge. We require a 50% deposit at the time of registration. You will receive notification as to when your balance is due (via email). PAYMENT IN FULL IS REQUIRED BY THE FIRST DAY OF YOUR CHILD’S PROGRAM.

Extended Care:
Capron Park Zoo is pleased to offer extended care for children in our Summer Zoocademy programs. Before begins at 8 AM. After care begins at the conclusion of the regular program day and includes a snack. All children enrolled in after care must be picked up no later than 5:30 PM*.

Before Care: $5/day – BC M-F
After care: $10/day – AC M-F

* All children MUST be picked up by 5:30 PM. An additional charge of $1/minute applies if children are picked up after 5:30

PLEASE NOTE: This is NOT an additional educational program. Children will spend their time either in the classroom or outside under supervision. We encourage children to bring activities to do during their before or after care time!

Zoo Venture: for 5-7 year olds

Designed with 5-7 year olds in mind, Zoo Venture will introduce children to Capron Park Zoo’s unique summer experience. Participants will be encouraged to explore the world by learning about animals in the zoo’s collection. Hands-on activities, games and more will start kids on their first steps in learning what it takes to work in a zoo. It’s a week of excitement and extra special ‘ed-ventures’!

Zoo Explorers: for 8 & 9 years olds

Zoo Explorers is the next step in the summer experience at Capron Park Zoo. This program will excite first time and returning participants alike. Children will begin to take a more in depth look at animal habitats both in the wild and at the zoo and the unique needs of animals in captivity. Combined with a more in-depth behind-the-scenes exploration, this program will challenge your child while delighting them at the same time!

Zoo Journeys: for 10 & 11 year olds

Zoo Journeys continues to build upon the knowledge gained in our other programs while introducing new, challenging topics and activities. Children will take a closer look at things like adaptations and the interconnectedness of all living things while still enjoying age-appropriate games and more. As they become more actively involved in the daily keeper routine and animals handling, they will learn what it takes to care for exotic animals in the zoo.

Junior Caretakers: for 12-15 year olds

This final step in Capron Park Zoo Summer Zoocademy experience is a chance for young teens to experience ALL aspects of zoo operations; from exhibit design to animal acquisition. During this two week program children will focus on conservation while cleaning exhibits, doing diet and enrichment preparation and even animal escape drills. Junior Caretakers will also find out what it takes to join the teen volunteer program.

Children provide have proof of a negative TB test in the last 12 months!
