Looking for a spring activity that your kids (age 7-10) can safely do at home? Consider Capron Park Zoo’s “Camp-in-a-Box”!

Camp-in-a-Box has multiple components for kids, some virtual, some done at home on their own and some they can do outside with the family! On the topic date, kids can sign in to a special ZOOM session for a live lesson time (sessions will be recorded for later access if the live session is missed-links will be sent by private email). All materials for specialized activities are included in the box*.

FEE: Capron Park Zoo Members: $20/box
Non-Members: $25/box

Pre-purchase of boxes is required. Purchases must be made no later than April 14. Box pick up is April 17 & 18 during regular zoo hours (10 AM – 3 PM).

DATES and TOPICS

APRIL 20: SPRING HAS SPRUNG! Vernal Pools and Salamander Ponds

Spring is the time when new life starts to make itself known all over – and vernal pools are an amazing example of extreme seasonal living! The Zoom session will take participants to a local vernal pool to investigate what is happening and who is using it to start the cycle of life again.

ZOOM SESSION: 10-11 AM

APRIL 22: MONARCHS AND MILKWEED: Pollinators and Plants

Monarch butterflies are an icon of North America and they are in trouble – climate change, habitat degradation and invasive plants have made migration and egg-laying a challenge. This program will focus on how kids can help a butterfly out and participate in the Citizen Science to track this American beauty!

ZOOM SESSION: 10-11 AM

APRIL 21: KEEPER KAPERS

A modified version of a perennial favorite. Kids will virtually visit behind-the-scenes areas of the zoo, chat with keepers and learn what is involved in being an animal caretaker at Capron Park Zoo.

ZOOM SESSION: 10-11 AM
